NIBR Collaboration

Global Health Fellows from CESRTA, University of Abuja have been involved in summer training programs at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) over the past two (2) years. These opportunities have come as a result of the Interdisciplinary Research Network for Sickle Cell Studies in Nigeria Project in collaboration with the University of Chicago and SPARCO.

1. Dr. Maxwell M. Nwegbu graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria (UNN) and had his specialist training in Pathology (Chemical Pathology sub-specialty) at the University College Hospital Ibadan Nigeria. He is a global health fellow of the Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research. 

2. Dr Alli Lukman Adewale, Head of Department, Medical Biochemistry was a 2018 Global Health Fellow of Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research (NIBR) Global Health Fellowship program held between 4th June and August 10th 2018 at Cambridge Massachusetts, USA.  His current research focus on sickle cell disease is to determine the anti-sickling activity and evaluate toxicological effects of some medicinal plants used locally for treatment of sickle cell disease.
