Dr. Thomas Dzer Sough

Dr. Tom Dzer Sough is a consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon. He is currently a Snr Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital. He is also a lecturer in the Department of Surgery of the College of Health Sciences of the University of Abuja. He is a visiting Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to a number of private health facilities like Fountain Side Hospital, Gwarimpa; DIFF Hospital, Maitama and others, all of them located in the city of Abuja.

His major areas of concentration/interest are, Orthopaedic trauma, General Orthopaedics, Paediatric Orthopaedics, Hand and foot, Limb deformity and lengthening-­‐ both stature and correction, Joint replacement-­‐Hip and Knee, Arthroscopy and sports medicine.

His basic medical qualification (MBBS) was obtained at the Faculty of Medicine, Ahmadu. Bello University, Zaria, 1993. His fellowship training in Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery was at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi-­‐Lagos where he came out with fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), 2005. He is a fellow of the International College of Surgeons(FICS). Associate fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He has had further training, with fellowships in advanced Orthopaedic Trauma management and Deformity Correction/Limb Lengthening with Ilizarov at the Orthopaedic Hospital Gorakhpur, India.He received advanced training in management of Paediatric Orthopaedic Trauma, Nottingham, UK.

He has attended the Basic, Advanced and Specialist AO courses for fracture management, in Dubai, Cairo and Nottingham, respectively. He has also attended training workshops for Advanced Deformity Correction and Limb lengthening of the Baltimore Deformity and Limb Lengthening Courses, in Baltimore, the USA with training on the advanced use of Tailor Spatial Frame, Ilizarov, Ponseti method for Clubfoot deformity correction and the use of other devices for deformity correction. He has also had training for flap surgery, at the University of California and San Francisco General Hospital, San Francisco, USA.

He is a member of the West African Orthopaedic Association(WAOA), Nigerian Orthopaedic Association(NOA), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons(AAOS), Member of the Sickle-­‐Cell-­Disease-­‐Research-­‐Group (SCD-­‐RG), Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria(MDCAN), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), AO Trauma, OTA, SICOT, ASCON.
