Developing an Interdisciplinary Research Network for Sickle Cell Studies in Nigeria Project

Developing an Interdisciplinary Research Network for Sickle Cell Studies in Nigeria was initiated with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation granted to Prof Olufunmi Olopade, University of Chicago  to demonstrate the feasibility of neonatal screening for SCD in 10,000 neonates from collaborating centres in Nigeria. The project was also to conduct training activities in clinical research for investigators at the University of Ibadan and University of Abuja to enhance their capacity for clinical and laboratory phenotyping of sickle cell disease, the use of automated screening methods, quality assurance and molecular diagnostics through the Institute of Advanced Medical Research & Training, (IMRAT) University of Ibadan and the Centre of Excellence for Sickle Cell Disease Research and Training (CESRTA), University of Abuja.
